Who Was Ignatius Maloyan?

Born in Mardin in 1869, Ignatius Maloyan became Archbishop of the Armenian Catholic Church. In 1915, during the Armenian Genocide, he was martyred for refusing to deny his Christian faith.

Before his execution, he declared, “If Jesus Christ, my Lord and my God, was crucified for me, why should I not be ready to die for Him?”

Beatified in 2001 by Pope John Paul II, he will be canonized in 2025 — a lasting symbol of faith and sacrifice.
